Week 16

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a nice, relaxing holiday at home. We are glad to welcome everyone back to continue the great work we did here in Mrs. P.'s class in 2011.

Students jumped right back into the swing of things here, moving forward to this month's country and sport of concentration: Japan and tae kwon do! This week we were introduced to some fascinating facts about Japanese culture and its tradition of martial arts, learning about how children in Japan practice these sports as we do baseball and football here in the United States. In SPOT group, Mrs. P.'s class made small booklets about Japan's customs and culture, and even had the chance to watch a short video of one more of the country's beloved sports: sumo wrestling! Mrs. P.'s Olympians got to try this sport over this past summer when our class visited Camp Smile, only our uniforms were velcro and made us stick to bouncey walls!

Students also added a number of new sight words to their ever-growing list. Please see the left column to track how our list grows and practice the flashcards we send home to ensure Mrs. P.'s class stays on our sight-word game!

Also, now that we are through the holidays it's time to kick off the Annual Candy Sale! Please mark your calendars for January 11th for the first official Candy Rally, which will take place here in the school lunchroom. Candy bars will be delivered this Thursday, so it's not too late to place your order via email or the candy bar order form sent home with the kids. Last year Mrs. P.'s class was among top sellers for the school. Lets see if we can do even better this year!
